We often think of the polar opposites in government and politics as being left and right or liberal and conservative. These divisions certainly exist, but perhaps the most productive way to divide political philosophies is between freedom and tyranny, because effective government does not come from finding a balance between left and right or liberal and conservative, but rather by finding the proper balance between anarchy and total control.
